Royals soccer upended

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR / WIRI) – A singular goal less than ten minutes into the game proved to be the difference in the WIAA Division 4 Sectional Final game with the Assumption and Washburn Girls Soccer teams on Saturday, June 14 at Mike Webster Stadium in Rhinelander.

The Castle Guards got the early lead and rode its defense to 1-0 and its first appearance at the WIAA State Tournament, hosted from June 19 to June 21 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

The Royals concluded the season with a record of 15-4-1.

Rangers begin WVLL hot

The Wisconsin Rapids Rangers American Legion Baseball team began its play in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League with a couple of wins over the past week.

Rapids knocked off Stevens Point 7-3 on Tuesday, June 16, and walked off D.C. Everest 3-2 on June 17.

Rapids played Plover on June 18, but the game was suspended due to weather. Plover leading 1-0 before the game’s cancellation.

The 17U Ramblers swept a doubleheader against D.C. Everest 15-5 and 17-2 on June 17 but dropped a game to Plover, 11-10, on June 18.

The 16U Ramblers dropped a DH to De Pere on June 15, 11-2 and 7-5, but split a DH with Stratford on June 18, by scores of 8-7 and 3-0.

Rafters stumbling in mid first half

The past week has been tough for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters as they slipped into fifth place in the Northwoods League Great Lakes West Division standings.

Rapids (7-15) have lost seven games in a row after their off day on June 11. They were riding a three-game winning streak going into the break.

The Rafters were swept by Wausau, Fond du Lac, Traverse City, and Madison.

Over the next week, the Rafters will take on Madison, Lakeshore, Rockford, and Royal Oak.
