This recipe was invented the way most great hillbilly meals are…
standing in front of the refrigerator at 2:30 in the morning, wearing one sock, wondering if pickles belong in stew. (Answer: maybe.)
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or whatever meat you found hiding behind the milk
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can potatoes or leftover mashed potatoes
- 1 handful frozen vegetables
- A good squirt of BBQ sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- A handful of crushed crackers or chips
- Salt and pepper (or whatever seasoning jar isn’t empty)
Instructions
Step 1:
Brown the ground beef in a pan. If a piece jumps out and lands on the stove, that’s called “chef’s tax.”
Step 2:
Throw the meat into the crockpot. Do not gently place it. Hillbilly recipes require a confident dump.
Step 3:
Add the cream of mushroom soup, vegetables, potatoes, and BBQ sauce. Stir it around like you’re mixing paint for a barn.
Step 4:
Sprinkle cheese on top. The correct amount of cheese is “until your ancestors whisper… that’s enough.”
Step 5:
Crush crackers or chips over the top. This is called “adding crunch so people think you planned this.”
Step 6:
Cook on low for 4–6 hours. During this time the crockpot will magically turn your questionable decisions into dinner.Serving Instructions
Scoop into bowls and say confidently:
“Yep… it’s a family recipe.”
If people ask what’s in it, just reply:
“Mostly groceries.”
